Our Work

Supporting The Most Vulnerable

When COVID-19 hit Sacramento, it hit hard. But even in the hardest of times, we remained fully operational.

We knew that the most vulnerable in our community—people experiencing homelessness and/or living with complex health issues—needed our help more than ever before. And we weren’t going to let them down.

We made sure that those who needed it most continued to have full access to healthcare, behavioral health support, and assistance in finding housing. In the face of these unprecedented times, our team was in the field, on the ground, every day to:

  • Continue working with clients in achieving long-term housing stability
  • Coordinate e-consult telehealth for unsheltered clients in need of care
  • Support with SSI claims/applications
  • Deliver supplies to homeless service providers
  • And provide safety provisions to homeless encampments

Community Kitchen Project

At the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, we partnered with Solomon’s Delicatessen to be there for those most vulnerable.

It’s hard to imagine feeling more scared than you already are when you can’t shelter in place and have a chronic disease or disability that makes you more susceptible for COVID-19. But imagine also being worried about where your next meal is coming from because your ability to go grocery shopping or even cook for yourself has been compromised.

That’s why this innovative project was so important. Solomon’s Delicatessen had closed down due to the pandemic, and together, we transformed it into a community kitchen that could prepare and deliver fresh meals to medically-fragile clients. Thanks to this partnership and the generosity of donors, we delivered over 21,000 meals within 10 weeks of the project.

This Community Kitchen Project was made possible by:

  • Dignity Health
  • Kaiser Permanente
  • Sutter Health
  • The California Endowment
  • UC Davis Health
  • Union Pacific
